The subject of the March painting challenge over at Ann’s Immaterium has been “Neglected But Not Forgotten” models or miniatures, so I reckoned I’d easily be able to get something painted for that! Overconfidence in action on my part!
The only two models that I’ve got painted that qualify for the challenge are shown above, a Czech S-I-d tankette on the left and a French R35 light tank on the right. The S-I-d is 1:72 scale and the R35 is 20mm (1:76), so these are not large models.
They didn’t get varnished until March 31st and I had to take a quick picture of them today just to meet the posting deadline of midnight on April 2nd! I got other stuff painted alongside them that didn’t qualify for the challenge, but my plan is to put up a more detailed post soon with all of the models and a bit more detail about them!
‘Fraid this’ll have to do for now!

Thanks Dave! 🙂 It’s not as if you haven’t been busy through March though, with individual minis and the wizard’s tower! I’ve actually finished four vehicles and spent the rest of the time prepping and priming figures!

I echo TIM’s comments – though I can’t say I had any neglected models as I, well, never do! I really like the subdued green on the R35. I had to look up the SID as I had never heard of it – and only 8 were ever built and it looks like the only action they saw was in Yugoslav service. Nicely done as always John!

Thanks Mark! 🙂 Good for you not having any neglected models! 🙂 You’ve pre-empted my next post pretty well – I’ve got another S-I-d painted to go with the one shown and R35s served in one of the Yugoslav tank battalions! I chose plain olive green for the R35 to allow it to represent a late-production French vehicle or one in Yugoslav service. The green is the same I used for my camouflaged French tanks and I didn’t like it at first, but after shading and drybrushing I’m quite pleased with it! Just as well, because I’ve got another one to paint!

Sorry for the preemption John, but at this rate you’ll outstrip Skoda’s actual level of production! The nice thing about French tanks of this era is there are so many patterns to choose from eh?

Haha, maybe! 🙂 I quite like the S-I-d and it’s a very distinctive vehicle in its class. I deliberately painted each of my 1940 French tanks in a different camouflage scheme and there are still plenty more to choose from. I’m still not finished with French armour and have an AMR33/35, two Lorraine L38 tractors, two Char D1s, an AMR command vehicle and another R35 to do!

Thanks Anthony, I appreciate that! 🙂 The thing to bear in mind here is that I had a whole month to get something painted and only managed to scrape in at the last moment! I did get a second S-I-d painted and have been preparing figures as well, so I’ve been keeping busy!

I’ve got a couple of StuGs and a couple of troop carrier halftracks in the box. Plan is to clean up the painting desk tomorrow and then reset “The Tray”, so while I’ll prefer to keep the stuff already out in there, who knows what else might sneak in? 🙂
